Oh boy…

I kinda slept on Enterprise when it first aired. I watched the pilot and enjoyed it, but didn’t keep up. If Star Trek fatigue is a thing, I had it. I’ve seen a handful of episodes over the years, but I’m now tackling it properly and fast approaching the first season finale. It’s a fun show.

It also leans into my own favourite reading of the franchise; Vulcans are insufferable pricks. The McCoy Principal. See also Elves in LOTR.

Scott Bakula as Captain Archer, probably wondering why his ship has dropped out of warp again.

I don’t care too much about the lore, but I’ve always been a big fan of Scott Bakula – and his Captain Archer is a great lead. I also like the Enterprise NX-01 way better than that stupid-shaped thing they lumbered Patrick Stewart with. Mostly though, I’m ignoring the Star Trek stuff (the bridge crew are currently vacationing on Planet Fuck) and just enjoying the 1960s space-submarine show of it all.

Back when we shot CAPER in LA and Scott jumped on a plane to join us for a day, I was too busy being a Quantum Leap fanboy to think about his stint with Starfleet. But once he stepped into the character I’d written, all that faded away. That moment – when an actor you’ve admired becomes someone you created –  never gets old.

At some point I’ll add a little more detail to the CAPER section of the site, but for now here’s one of my favourite shots from the day we all got to play pretend with Scott Bakula.

Scott Bakula, Amy Berg, Abby Miller and me.

Merica Adams will return…

Slowly working on adding more meat to the website’s bones.

First up is a little background and an update on one of my favourite projects. There’s a link in the sidebar (or the lowbar if you’re on a phone).

Just follow the gun and you’ll find the girl.

Compared to KING KONG (1933) Schoedsack‘s DR CYCLOPS (1940) is a pretty tired affair but it has some wonderful visuals.

Drawing a line from Frank Zappa, the young artist, and Frank Zappa, the seasoned musician.

The blobulent suit
That’s right! THE BLOBULENT SUIT
It’s made of rubber, it’s very ugly
It’s got an air hose…
(The guy that has it all has a SPACE WRENCH!)
The things that were supposed to be green
In the black and white movies
They get you in the neck when you’re not looking
They get you, they get you, they get you, get you, get you

New Site, New Setup

Laurel & Hardy in BUSY BODIES (1933) offering some insight into my website building processJust a quick note to mark the new website going live.

It’s simpler by design. A fresh, clean place to keep things updated and easy to find. If you’re here, you probably know what I do, but this site pulls it all together: comics, screenplays, books, and whatever comes next.

The blog section (this bit) is now a work jotter. That means quick updates, behind-the-scenes notes, and thoughts in progress. Some will be polished, most won’t. Think of it like the inside cover of a well-used notebook. Things I’m working on, trying out, or need to park somewhere I can see them.

If you’re looking for something more structured or story-driven, head over to the newsletter instead. This space is more hands-on, scribbles in the margins, while the real work gets done.

More soon.
