Something for the weekend
Watching Korean TV with the comments on is something else.
The show is The Veil (검은 태양) and the actor sending the audience into spasms is Namkoong Min (남궁민) mostly due to a topless gym workout montage.
If you like brooding guys who shoot people in the face then this is the show for you.

Poromafia
I haven’t watched a Finnish crime drama in a while and it’s hard to resist something called REINDEER MAFIA with this logo:
Plus I’ll watch anything with Mikael Persbrandt in it.

Don’t breathe…
Tonight I’m watching MR VAMPIRE (1985) while writing. It’s one of the movies that I’ve seen so many times that I can multitask why it plays, but I have to be careful as its very easy to drop everything and just watch the bouncing and the kicking and the punching and the biting.
The British television station Channel Four in the 80s was a godsend to a young bookish kid growing up in Lancashire, but desperate for a different window to gaze out of. It introduced me to both Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung and a bunch of genre movies that I still rewatch some thirty odd years later.
A few years ago Jess and I went to Hong Kong and thanks to these movies and a later love of Heroic Bloodshed it felt like coming home in many ways. If you haven’t seen a Jiangshi movie then you’re in for a real treat and this is the one that launched an entirely new genre of comedy Kung-fu horror films that are a delight to discover.
If you’re already a fan of the genre then you should also check out RIGOR MORTIS (2013). Juno Mack’s movie updates the concept and gives it a little more bite.

Cate Blanchett @ Cannes 2008
Getting ready for a trip to Birmingham and Manchester and found these old pics from when I did the Indiana Jones thing a few years back:
They’re up on Instagram for now. Still looking for a Flickr replacement…

Detail
Haven’t paid much attention to the chatter around the first photo of Andrew Garfield as the new Spiderman, but the one thing that I couldn’t shake was how good the new leaky chest logo looked.
I mean spiders get squished a lot, right? And Spidey’s such an annoying fuck from the bad guy’s point of view – running off at the mouth endlessly – it must be seriously satisfying to drop a building on the little bastard. Even if he does come back and hand you your ass later.
But then I realised what the dripping logo actually reminded me of:
I have no idea if there’s a Moebius print tacked to a wall in Marc Webb’s office, but it’s a nice thought…

The Coenfographic
Now this is very cool:
“I decided to try my hand at mapping out the Coen filmography and map out the most prevailing actors throughout the years by film (each colour-coded) featuring the correct movie logo/brand and as an added extra some sideline award stats”
I’ve had my eye on Needle’s True Grit print for a while, but it’s a very stark affair in contrast with Muller’s 96 character piece that plots a path from Blood Simple to Rooster. I think I need to add a wall to my office.
The full-res version is here.

The look
That’s a movie right there.
